Becoming a Sighted Guide | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Our volunteer sighted guides are critical to the success of REFB and we are always interested in meeting runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. Training Becoming a sighted guide is as easy as attending at least one full training session (approximately one hour). Currently, training/practices at held at The Texas School for the Blind track located at 45th Street and Lamar Blvd on Saturday mornings at 9 am to prepare runners and guides for upcoming road races. We require all volunteers to attend at least one training session before accompanying a blind/visually impaired (B/VI) runner in a road race. We strongly encourage volunteer guides to attend additional training so that they become familiar with sighted guide running and the pace of their partner. View
map of area. Sighted Guide Requirements The only requirement is that you attend a training session (see above). There are no requirements for age or athletic ability. Sighted guides are carefully matched to B/VI participants according to athletic interests, pace and general compatibility. Because of the regular contact at training sessions, guides and participants often choose each other. Applying To Be a Sighted Guide Contact: REFB Interested individuals may also come, without obligation, to one of the Saturday morning training sessions. |
